Sugarcane is a grass (a renewable biological fiber). Sugarcane reproduces naturally in cycles of less than a year, making it inherently a sustainable fiber. The sugarcane that Roscomar uses comes from Brazil. Our Sugarcane is watered by rainfall which thereby limits manual irrigation and uses minimal fertilization. The sugarcane is harvested and processed into granules that can be used like other petroleum based EVA materials.
OEKO TEX certification means that these materials are free from harmful chemicals and are audited according to OEKO TEX standards. GRS (Global Recycled Standard) means that these materials are made from 100% recycled sources.
100% recyclable polyurethane gives a bouncy cushioning feel with molded arch support. We recycle 100% of our insoles. The most common uses of recycled polyurethane are furniture, mattresses, and cars. Our insoles are removable if you'd like to swap them for your own.
We use GOTS certified organic cotton, which limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes, and other chemical inputs during the production process. In order to qualify for this certification, all of our cotton components must contain at least 95% organic cotton fibers
Recycled leather used in Roscomar sneakers is made from leather scraps upcycled from glove manufacturing cut offs. The leather scraps are bound together with latex and non-harmful chemicals, the product maintains a leather content 90% higher than most upcycled leathers. Our recycled leather is comprised of 60% upcycled leather waste, 30% latex and 10% PU compound. Leather offers many natural properties perfect for sneakers - it is naturally breathable, shapes and stretches to your feet, highly durable, resistant to dirt and can be treated to be weatherproof. Certification from LWG means our supplier has been audited across a number of factors including tannery processes, renewable energy levels and water usage and waste.
Our natural rubber (75%) is biodegradable and as it is grown responsibly, increases biodiversity and absorbs carbon. We mix this with 25% recycled rubber to make the outsole abrasion-resistant and also to utilize pre-existing rubber and save it from landfill.
